OP, are you reasonably close to IAD? We are and we take the IAD official taxi, Washington Flyer. Sometimes the trip duration makes it not worth it but the convenience of door to door is nice.

Either garage 1 or 2 works well. I prefer 2 because it’s a shorter walk. Valet is also an option, it’s in the middle of the hourly lot in front.

We use this trick as well. May as well save the $20. If I was doing a really long trip I'd probably still do economy, but it's so much faster to use the garages, and the timing is under your control (because it's just walking and not waiting for a shuttle). And in winter you don't have to worry about snow and ice.

Well it's much more space constrained, so the supply/demand balance is very different.

Garage 1 is opposite the airport and you walk underground below the hourly lot. Garage 2 is to the right of the terminal (if you're in the hourly lot.). There is a covered walkway but you're basically outside when you walk to the terminal. We left for a week vacation to the Caribbean on Jan 5th - that was the day the snow started. We parked in Garage 1 and left our heavy coats in the car - didn't need them for a week at the beach. It was great to quickly be inside the building as we walked from our car to the terminal. And when we returned home a week later, we didn't have to worry about shoveling our vehicle out of mounds of snow.

I agree, the garages are well lit and safe.

Just take garage 1 or 2. These days I prefer 1– bet you can find a spot not too far from the elevators.

I have found both garage 1 and garage 2 to be very safe. At that early time you will likely get a good spot. There is security.

I have an early morning flight in a few weeks (before 6 am) and return after midnight when I come home. I will be gone for 4 days and am flying with Delta. Any recommendations for where to park where I would be safe (single woman), but also easy to get in and out of for these odd flight times?
