UMD is great but of course it is not equal to Harvard or any ivy/elite based on the things that matter most: the talent of the peers and the success of the grads into the top level of tech/cs

Most people interested in CS or engineering don't even bother applying to Harvard. It's not where the talent or energy is in these fields.

UMD is very good at math, engineering, and CS. They are all intertwined. UMD is a great school for STEM. No, I am not an alumni.

UMD College Park is a very strong school and people are finally taking notice. CS has been competitive for a long time.

And not for nothing, but I think it's on its way to being a top 30 school, period, maybe by the end of the decade.

That seems to be the consensus from multiple CS rankings. USNWR seems to be more generous with Harvard than others. Not familiar with any others.
