It’s more stem that is used for placement and can be advantageous.

Which ones are they taking?

They are used for placement and do show up on transcript as zero credit courses taken.

They may have some programs. This wasn't Brown but I got approached by the math department at my school based on my AP scores. They were going after potential math minors.

There is no downside to sending them.

(For what it's worth, I have a freshman at a T10 trying to figure out a course schedule. Had some senioritis last year and didn't study for Physics C, ending up with a 4. Now wishes he had made the effort to get a 5, because it would have been a big help to his schedule for placement purposes.)

Congrats to your DC, OP! If you don't mind can you please post your kids stat and if they are public/private? My DC has applied RD and waiting, so just to see the chances.

+1 DD is sending hers after admitted ED (including her IB scores, which she is very nervous about).

Send them! And study! APs are used for placement at Brown, like most top schools they are not for credit but can help them start in higher levels of certain subjects. internships and summer research opportunities look at the transcript to see what has been taken: taking higher levels earlier is a leg up for sophomores applying for these types of opportunities.
