Well they told all their employees they should feel free to resign tomorrow. And many of the people who process passports probably have good basic administrative skills and can get other jobs. They also don't live in the DC area, so their region won't be flooded with new out of work competition. I'd think the number of those folks taking the BS deferment offer may be high, relatively speaking.

As a fed, the vast vast majority of us did not take the stupid deal. Feds are committed folks. Don’t get me wrong things are a mess and Elon will likely cause some delays but passport staff are not going to resign in mass tomorrow. They want to keep their jobs. I know zero from my agency taking the deal. I have an appointment for my kids Friday I’m hopeful things will still be processed ok

I wish I had gotten DS and my applications out weeks ago. He needs a new one since his last one was for a child. Mine expired last year. I suspect that the chaos will affect processing times. With the way things are headed, there will eventually be reduced staffing and that will certainly have an impact. Fortunately we haven’t made travel plans yet.

I applied online after the inauguration and got my new passport in like a week. It was super fast!

Feds are still working despite all this crap. I’d be pretty surprised if you don’t have it in the next 2-3 weeks.

I guess there is a decent chance that the directive to hold X passports is screwing up the production and mailing for everyone.

Hopefully you didn’t choose X or other as your gender; those won’t be processed anytime soon.

I applied for mine early January, and it was here in four weeks.

I’m in the same boat. Hoping they don’t cut half the staff in the passport department before they process mine. Hoping they don’t cut any of them but anything seems possible as this point.

We don't know. Maybe you can check the status.

Once you know which office is processing it, you can search Reddit for recent experiences with it.

With all the ..uh...shake up in the federal government? I applied to renew on New Year's Day, leaving for my trip on March 20th, concerned I won't have it in time.

*cue the "there are bigger problems to worry about right now!!" comments* And yes, I know I should've done it earlier but what's done is done (or realistically, not done).
