My physician said that while initially Cologuard was inaccurate, it has improved significantly.

It doesn't matter. I'm 50 and most of my friends have had their first colonoscopies recently. Everyone had polyps removed. Cologuard doesn't do that. Why wouldn't you want somehting that could potentailly turn into cancer taken out before it turns into something worse. Just them them everyone!

Dr Martin Prosky.

3301 Woodburn Rd # 107, Annandale, VA 22003
Hours:
Open ⋅ Closes 5 PM
Phone: (703) 876-0437

His office kind of sucks, but HE is great. Two of my other docs go to him. I tend to trust docs other docs use. Once you're a patient and on the portal etc, it's much easier to get through to the office.

Colonoscopies are very very basic. Ask your PCP who they recommend and then choose someone close where you live.

Cologuard does not diagnose cancer. Even if you have polyps, there's a good chance those can just be removed and you will be ok.

But yes with your history, you should not be doing cologuard, you should be getting regular colonoscopies.

Cologuard was ordered by PCP. My previous gastroenterologist retired. Would greatly appreciate if you can recommend a great doctor for colonoscopy in Northern VA area

Also, call your insurance to make sure that a colonoscopy will be covered. I read that it's either cologuard or so I really hope that doesn't negate the fact that they should be paying for your colonoscopy.

I had a good experience with Dr. Ami Patel at VHC. Have also hear that Dr. Potru above is good. Honestly, with a positive cologuard I hope that they can fit you in. I had to wait months to get in, but this seems like an emergency.

I love Dr. Potru in Arlington. I have heard that all the MDs in this practice are great. Not sure if they have a practice near you though. I "fired" two docs before her as I have an issue requiring more scopes than i like to imagine. I also have a family history of colon cancer so i've had 2 colonoscopies with her. NBD.

I had a positive one followed by the colonoscopy...and I just had a small polyp. No concern. I was very worried so I understand. I hope all goes well for you.

Please take a deep breath! Those tests are very unreliable and someone with family history should not take them. Lots of false positives and false negatives. How old are you? Any reason why you didn’t do the colonoscopy with family history? I was very scared to do it but finally did this past year. Test itself was so easy. Don’t fear. Ask your gastroenterologist or OB or whoever gave you the test for a referral.

I had a doctor's appointment on Monday and asked about it. He said it was a terrible test. Totally unreliable and he doesn't think should be permitted. He has never suggested it for any client. The high number of false positives, while stressful, is not potentially deadly like the high number of false negatives.

So hopefully that'll let you calm down a little bit. Good luck.
