I had a friend like this and she was spectacular. We both went to a top lac, she planned practically most of the big events and eventually became president because she was so well liked for her event planning. She now is a chief marketing officer for a major hedge fund and makes more than I ever will. College is perfect for these students- my friend majored in English and media, but marketing is also a good route.

Public relations and development are
Careers that require a lot of party related planning. Look into Arts management programs well.

I know Penn State has a hotel management major. I wonder if there is an event planning track in that school...

My child is truly a gifted an event planner -- throws elaborate dinner parties, crafts place settings, orchestrates fundraisers for school, masterminds quirky events that draw people together, and has a strong artistic eye. I don't think "event planning" is a college major, but we're looking for a school that would prime a student for such a career and also offer ample on-campus opportunities for such things through either Greek life or an otherwise robust social scene. But this isn't just a diversion; it's an ideal career. Any ideas??
