Burroughs may have a somewhat challenging drop off soon as they are moving to trailers on the adjacent field for the next two years during the main building renovation. But there may be spaces open because some current students are planning to lottery.

Why do you need to go to east end for stokes Spanish? They have both Spanish and French programs at Brookland. How about Bunker Hill or Burroughs? They are well liked for prek.

Sela might be a little out of the way but it's immersion and your odds are good of getting in.

I've seen that I can drive past all these schools on my way to work and it's ordered for preference and commute. If there's something I'm not thinking about or I should know kindly suggest. And yes I am very aware that the list looks a little bit whack. LaSalle is my neighborhood school but I don't want to take my child there. I am just putting it as a last resort I also know Sade on a normal day Hyde Addison would be my number one but the chances of getting in is almost zero anyway so that's why I put it at 2nd to last.

If LaSalle Backus is your IB and you don't want to go there I'd put Whittier. OOB it's definitely no guarantee but it's an excellent local option and will be close enough to have neighborhood ish vibes.

As others have said you probably need to go back to the lottery page because if Hyde and Shepard are your top choices they should be first and second.

That statement demonstrates a lack of understanding about how the lottery works. You need to watch the video on MySchoolDC about how the ranking process works. But in short: If you have a number good enough to get into Hyde-Addison (or Shepard), you still will not be matched with those schools. Because having a good number will cause you to be matched with schools that you ranked higher.

You should add Stokes Spanish, I don't understand why you don't have it. And you should consider whether there are other schools that are easier to get into that you prefer over LaSalle-Backus. With the list you have right now, either you have a good number (like well above average), or you get LaSalle-Backus. That's fine, but you might want to consider your options if you have a number that's below average but not terrible.

Yes, this. You need to re-rank in order of true preference. Maybe that means Hyde and Shepherd move to the top?

I just want to caution you that drop off at DC Bilingual is a cluster because of pulling into and out of the parking lot OR walking in an area that is hard to get to.

My family lives nearby and thought it would be a good choice as well, but the commute (along with other factors) made it a poor choice for us.

I suggest you consider other options that are close and non bilingual as backups. As someone else mentioned, you are lacking safeties. Bridge is a great school for preschool. It's where our son went. It buys you more time to get into some of the other schools on your list (which are all long shots) as your child gets into the later grades which are easier grades in which to gain admissions.

You may want to consider Inspired Teaching as well. Drop off there is quite easy.

That's not how the lottery works. If it's your 1st choice, absolutely list it first.

That was my question, too, with DCB first it is a confusing omission.

Does LaSalle take kids after the lottery historically?
