It will be really hot out but the indoor scene is very well established. Malls there are entertainment centres…not just about shopping. Might as well stop, it’s only a few days. Get a hotel with an indoor pool or at least a pool that is shaded part of the day.

Clearly you’ve never been there.

Worst season for that

There is ice skating and skiing like previous poster suggested, you can do a nighttime desert tour/dinner thing - still hot but bearable. Dubai mall is an entire day if you like shopping (I don't but it can be entertaining). Drive up the coast to Ras Al Khaimah. Go snorkeling (morning or late afternoon). It's definitely worth seeing, even in August. Also, there is big indoor theme park now - IMG park.

So much to do for kids that my kids still talk about how much better it was than here ... several years later.

The average temperature in Dubai August is nearly 110 degrees and it's not "dry" heat. It is certainly not "bearable" unless you're a camel.

Millions live in Dubai now and they cope. Complain, yes, but they cope. I've lived through many a Dubai summer. I actually came to rather enjoy it as everything slowed down and there was a certain resilient charm to it. A chilled swimming pool does make all the difference. I used to soak in mine, enjoying the combination of cool water and sultry summer heat.

I love to cope on my vacations.

Even in the best destinations with the best weather there are still people who complain and moan and whine.

Can't believe there are people that go there voluntarily.

That's like the hell on earth to be there. Why would you subject yourself to that to go to a mall?

Yep. UAE does tourism extremely well. I "hate" malls but always have a good time checking out Dubai Mall or Mall of Emirates, walking around and people watching and gawking at the bling bling, especially Dubai Mall. And it does have some good shops that can be fun to browse, plus some indoor activities.

Agree. I’m not a mall person, but Dubai’s mall are very entertaining with aquariums, water falls, ice skating. Etc…

I lived in Dubai for many years. Yes, August is very hot but it's not destructively hot. Make sure you have a hotel with a chilled swimming pool and do your activities in the morning and evenings. Midday can be at the big malls like Dubai Mall or Mall of Emirates. You could go to Ski Dubai and boast about skiing when it's 110 degrees outside. You could even go to the beach early morning if you want to swim in the gulf. Many do. In the evenings it cools slightly and the street life picks up in the old parts of town. Just be mindful of the humidity, which is real although September tends to be the more humid month. Worth looking at tripadvisor forums for Dubai in summer recommendations.

Be aware that in August the glare is strong so going up to the top of the Burj won't give you the visibility you might be expecting.

We have an opportunity to stop over in Dubai for 3/4 days in August. We know it’s going to be crazy hot. Is there enough to do indoors with kids that are 9 and 12? Or should we just ditch the idea?
