I strongly dislike talking on the phone. I always have. Back in the day I wrote letters to people. The only people I've ever spoken to regularly are my parents, which I did several times a week during my commute. My siblings and I regularly text, send photos, etc. to keep in touch.

I personally don't like to talk to family members "once a month", because there's nothing of substance to talk about and I don't want to spend 30 min on the phone talking about weather and listen to their complaints about whatever. So I also say I communicate by text, it's quick and efficient. I hate "chatting". If there's something important, I can call. Otherwise, no. There's a reason they don't want a phone call from you. They don't want to waste their time by "chatting".

I mostly text with family members but sometimes we decide to talk because there is too much typing and back and forth. I do not think it should be a problem to say...hey can I just give you a quick call to plan Thanksgiving for the 22 of us. I think it will be quicker.

Yes. Can’t dictate how others prefer to communicate.

If they have actually said to you that they prefer text, then you need to accept that. If that is dealbreaker to you, then you can take a break. You cannot make them interact with you the way you want.

I have been through a lot in life and I feel like that has helped me be accepting and give grace. I would not spend time thinking about the fact someone prefers text. I would just communicate with that person in the way he/she prefers. It would not even cross my mind to spend time thinking about this. I assume you see them in person too? If you never see them in person, it just may be they are not that into you and again, you just accept that and let them be.

Just text saying when is a good time to call.
Because phone calls can come at inconvenient times.

Could you ask if you could have a once-a-month call for a half hour and otherwise text throughout the month? That way everyone gets what they want.

I would love to chat once in awhile with my adult siblings to keep in touch but they prefer to just text. Would you just continue texting? Or at some point would you feel fed up and want a real conversation?
