I’m not convinced these large OOS flagships are yield protecting.

The problem for high stats kids is that there are tons of them, and only so many spots. Also, the targets are yield protecting.

Out high stats kid - last year - got in at the state flagship, and at Vanderbilt after being on the WL, and was outright rejected by UNC and UMI

It does seem rather rough this year. Everyone has something in hand but deferrals when thought it’d be a safety. Some may come through in May - July but who wants to go through that roller coaster.

Honestly, it sounds like every one of the past five cycles. Deferrals sometimes turn to acceptances but more often do not.

Florida is quirky with their oos admissions. They’ll take a lower stat kid from a high school with a track record of enrollments over a higher stat kid from a school with no track record with the school. Also seem to really favor public school kids.

So any insight into what is going on? Tons of high stat kids in this year with a large population? Schools can’t figure out how to handle increase in apps?

Nah. Everything shakes out pretty quickly in April.

The popular state schools should never be seen as targets for out of state applicants.

Unfortunately yes, we are not a fan of this drawn out process. DS applied early in-state to UGA and was Deferred to the Regular Decision deadline. And who knows if he'll be Waitlisted then. It is frustrating and draws this process out forever. Also delaying decision and housing app/process for other schools he likes, as we're on a budget and don't want to lose the deposits $$$.

They did the same to in-state kids (we're in FL, deferred and hearing about many)
