+1 I know a kid who is struggling now. I’m surprised my kid is doing well. At back to school night, the teacher warned us that the homework would include concepts before they were taught at school. That was memorable - the homework is all online and she has to get a certainly number correct in order for it to count. My kid does it completely independently. She doesn’t want me involved. I am so grateful. I hope this crazy math track works out well for her. They take algebra in 7th, I think? I’m taking things one year at a time.

Off-ramp is
repeating AIM/7+/prealgebra the year after (no problem),
or retaking algebra1 after the first time no problem),
or dropping down to non-honors geom/alg2/precalc (bad plan if you want to come back to honors later),
or fighting all the way through precalculus and then taking the easier calc option or stats.

If she follows this more accelerated pathway...is she stuck doing the hardest sequence in high school...or can you deviate from that path?

Don't worry about it yet. See how things go in the spring.

You can move up or down in the fall also. The two courses aren't substantially different in content. It's not like switching from Algebra 2 to Geometry or vice versa.

AIM/7+ just goes faster through the intro parts that 6+ spends more time warming up on.

But 80%ile is the hardest working / lowest readiness of kids who try AIM.
If she wants to do it, she should do Khan or IXL math 7 and preview Prealgebra before he fall.
If math 7 content isn't very easy for her by end of summer, I'd enroll in 6+.

I'm hearing that kids like her could really struggle down the road with the pace. Should I be asking for amp6 instead ? That's the slightly accelerated path?
