Oxford Circus, Piccadilly Circus, Trafalgar Square, and Leicester Square are all right on top of each other so there’s not much difference among them.

Knightsbridge was a little too bling bling for my tastes - but we liked staying in Kensington near Hyde Park.

Agreed. It was very nice at night. Could walk to a nearby pub without crowds with very little noise. But just a short walk to very lively areas. That said my wife and I enjoy walking places and walked 10+ miles a day so depends on how comfortable the OP is with that.

Always suggest staying in a central residential neighborhood with good transit access. Usually better food and just a nicer environment to come home to at the end of the day than the core business/tourist areas.

Agree. Marylebone is wonderful and walkable to so much. Piccadilly Circus, Trafalgar Square, and Leicester Square are so close to each other that it makes no real difference to differentiate.

All of the areas listed are fine. I’d prioritize the specifics of a particular hotel/apartment over being near a particular landmark. Like the PP, I’d vote Marylebone because it’s “home” to me and lets me get everywhere I want to go easily, but isn’t quite as people-y.

Knightsbridge. I prefer to stay in more residential areas in London. Other areas are too busy.

Agree. I wouldn’t stay very near to any on your list except maybe Knightsbridge. So easy to get around London that there’s no need to be so close to the very busy areas.

Define "near". For example, I would happily stay in Marylebone, which is walking distance to Oxford Street/Oxford Circus, but I would not want to stay close to Oxford Circus. Way, way too crowded.

Knightsbridge

We’ve stayed steps from Covent Garden previously and loved it! Of these options, which would you choose?

No real plan of action other than exploring the city. We go to London every few years but need a change of routine/new area.
