I would wait until he is 16- always do small things now to make future administrative stuff easier. Not only would he get 10 years on it, but since it will be an adult passport he can renew it online in 10 years. If it's a child passport it will need to be redone in person in 5 years as the first adult passport.

Also only 1 parent need to go for a 16 year old.

+1. This is what we did. I'm so glad my 16 yo now has a 10 year passport that can be renewed online. I'm only bummed I still have one more child on a child passport.

Id go ahead and do it. We did ours at 15.

Yes, we just renewed our child’s. Good extra id.

Beware in DC that post offices (friendship) are canceling appointments without notice. Not fun to show up dragging an infant and family and be told that the system “should have cancelled it” but they couldn’t do anything about it

We made sure we did this for everyone in our family before the administration change. Do it.

Anything govt related, do it now. Things will get ridiculously slow soon.

It's not that much of a hassle. Parent 2 can sign a notary form so they don't have to go to the passport appt. We've done that before, but this time just made a Sat. morning appt at the post office and everyone went.

10000000% everyone’s passport should be up to date at any given moment. Also have $1000 in cash in your freezer. I am not a conspiracy theorist but I have been alive and read history. These low hanging fruit logistics are just smart to have covered

We got my daughter a passport when she was 3 to go to Jamaica. It is past the 5 years so it’s now expired….

We are not planning any international travel for the next few years but I’m wondering if we should renew it anyway. Parent passports are up to date….

Call me a conspiracy theorist but I feel like it might be a good idea with everything going on in the world. But I know it’s a big hassle to get a child passport since both parents have to go to sign off.

What are other folks doing?
