I know a few families who went to Disney in late august. All of them experienced a lot rain.

Late August is actually a very slow time in Disney and a good time to go. Most southern states are back in school. If you can take the heat (some can't, but it doesn't bother us) it's a great time to go.

Agree with this. At that age and for the length of your trip, Disneyland is the better option. You can also tack on San Diego and do Leggoland and the zoo.

Couple years back we flew to Ottawa for a few days, then took the train to Montreal for a couple days, and then took the train to Quebec City for a few days before flying home. Worked out well. All the cities are great. That said, moving every couple days was tiring; kind of wish we had just done one or two cities.

It’s hot and miserable here in August. Go to Disney your kids are great ages to love it.

Disney won't be crowded, but it will be HOT and miserable. If you go there, be prepared for massive rains each afternoon. I would get a place with a great pool so you can have rest days too.

We enjoyed our Canada vacation with elementary schoolers.

The kids especially liked the Expo67 biodome, a bug zoo, and Cirque du Soleil in Montreal.

I would have spent more time on the Ile D'Orleans near Quebec. It reminded me of Vermont.

Disney world towards end of August is a good time to go. Not very crowded at all. It gets hot, but honestly not worst than here. We’ve done it several times, and it is way better than other more crowded times that we went. Lots of opportunities for inside activities when it’s hottest in mid-day.

If they like the beach, go to the Caribbean.

A Disney cruise would be fun but you might struggle booking this late. You can check their website for pricing and availability.

Disney World will be hot and miserable unless you approach it knowing you’ll spend time at the hotel pool relaxing and cooling off.

Have you considered Alaska? Maybe a Disney cruise of Alaska?

Florida, especially Disney, will be hell on earth in August. Save it for a cooler time of year.
I don’t think Canada would be boring — Banff in particular looks stunning, although I’ve heard the summertime is very crowded and you may be late to the game in terms of booking.
It’s technically Europe, but what about Iceland? Plenty of threads on here with itineraries, and I think your kids would be great ages for it.

We are off mid August to late August for 2 weeks from DMV. We plan to skip camps and take 2 kids (6 and 10) for vacation for maybe 1.5 weeks. We are debating to go to Canada or Disney in FL ( never been there) or
other better places. Kids love to play. We are not considering Europe or Asia this time. I am scared of long lines in Disney world but I think we have to go at least one time when they are still young. They don't mind Canada, but I find Canada kind of boring. If we go to Canada, maybe Toronto, Quebec and Montreal route, and hopefully to add one more location.
