But of your son's league/ club does change, he could get a boost until puberty affects all kids and the relative age boost is gone in the middle of high school, then it won't really matter much.

Different school districts have different requirements and then there are the kids who have been redshirted so where is the line drawn? At my son’s age and level, it’s a moot point as most of his team will be seniors in the fall and the consensus on the team is the late born 2008s would just play up and continue with the team.
