1 also happens at magnets.
DC would end up with 2 after MS unless accepted at a HS magnet outside of their cluster.

4 is marginal, but there is
5) the magnet, itself, is a fit for DC's interests and abilities, offering programming that DC would relish but that doesn't have a reasonably close equivalent at the local school.

Look for the recent thread on all the changes that will weaken the magnet experience. The current principal does not support the magnet, has precipitated the departure of some excellent magnet teaching staff and is reducing the number of electives kids can take making it a much less attractive option for most families.

My son is current 8th grader in TPMS Magnet now. He does not have an IEP - so I can't comment about that. Overall he has had a great experience. There are a few teachers that are just 'meh' even in the magnet program. He has not found the classes super hard, and has gotten pretty much straight As. Homework has been reasonable.

Not OP, but the same letter that tells you that your child got placed in the lottery, will tell you that your child got a spot.
