I'm a fed and I know some of my contractors are being told to come in full time. I am really concerned I'm going to lose some of my most experienced, brilliant team members who can easily retire or get a different job. I've told them that obviously they have to follow their employer's guidelines, but that as far as I'm concerned they've been doing exceptional work in our current hybrid setup.

Is there enough office space for everyone, OP? How much notice are they giving people?

No, I don't actually, because I don't work for the government and you don't pay my salary. I'm just a lay taxpayer like you and I have no problem with remote workers.

I have a family member who works for a defense company, she is over the moon that some of the leches in her organization will be given their pink slips soon. She does their work already anyway, so no loss there.

Wasn’t this always a risk? Presumably people considered the risk when they decided to move.

People quitting defense companies is going to affect military readiness. So all the people who are gleeful over those having to quit, good job.

The problem is that companies were lax about it and are tightening the screws so suddenly it’s hard to adjust. But yes, they will probably find another job.

DH works for a defense contractor and just got notice this morning that he has to return in offfice 5 days/ week. It’s fine for him but some of his colleagues moved to far flung places like Florida and Colorado and are panicking. I guess this is actually happening.
