I am also very sensitive to noise and don't go to concerts because they're too loud for me. When music becomes too loud, it goes from music to just noise to my ear. But I listen to music all the time - it's always playing at home, and I listen at a comfortable volume when doing errands.

I completely disagree. Bring the ear plugs and "play it by ear". If it is too much, prepare yourself mentally for one parent having to leave with the child, but preventing your child from experiencing all the world has to offer, when there is adaptive equipment, doesn't sit right with me. When they get to be your age, sure, they can decide for themselves.

Another vote for loop earplug. Kid wears them full time. Really helps at school.

My DC as well

Also mine. Highly recommend springing for the Loop Switch. Total game changer.

My 17yo DD has the adjustable Loops (allowing for different levels of cancellation in the same pair), and really likes them. Before she got these, she was using her AirPods with noise-cancellation turned on and nothing playing. But that was problematic in school, and seemed weird in some situations, and didn’t work nearly as well as the Loops do.

It did take some trial and error to figure out which size tips to use, but once she had them seated properly they were immensely helpful.

We use these too. Total game changer. They dull the sound, not try to block it, so DC can still participate actively.

Ear defenders have worked for movies, Nutcracker show and church with band regular hours, holidays they tend to turn up the volume for some reason.

Ear defenders made for shooting ranges are more pricey but have adjustable control over how much doubt is blocked these might be best for music performances, not sure how loud Broadway is.

Good luck and enjoy the performance. I hope you both have a fun time!

Our DC started to use the loop earplugs, which has been a game-changer for many new settings (haircuts, loud events with many people). They are also discreet.

Some shows have sensory friendly performances but like pps said, foam earplugs or headphones should work well. I'd just try them out in advance.

Head phones or earplugs, and an aisle seat in case he needs a break. I bet there are some “sensory friendly” performances as well.

Earplugs. Foam earplugs. He will hear enough to enjoy the show. Earplugs are calming in many circumstances.

My child is 10 and has very sensitive ears, can't go to movies, or places with loud music etc. I really want to go see a broadway show in a few months but am nervous-is there a certain section-like mezzanine or balcony? I hate to spend the money then not be able to enjoy. Any recommendations? Curious if this is something that may improve over time?
