I predict that taxpayer funded surgeries performed at the request of the patient in order to align with a gender will come to an end. In particular I predict that this will occur among the ranks of active duty service members, veterans and national guard. I hope this is objective enough to pass muster with the report post police, because it’s probably more than just a prediction or a guess

Does Medicare or Medicaid currently pay for HRT? If so, I’d expect that to end.

I think he will do everything in his power to make life worse for trans children and adults. Trans rights is the new abortion, insofar as culture warriors have grabbed onto it as an organizing issue to whip up the base.

So the important next step is to act as though he will take a maximalist approach, or allow those under him to do so.

I don't see a good toolkit from any of the national trans rights organizations yet but will post it here when I do.

It's been removed from the Department of State website and there are various articles about it. I think if someone has X that it would be wise to get that updated so they don't have re-entry issues.

I think he will follow through with banning trans girls in sports up through the college and Olympic levels.

I think they will no longer allow transgender women in women's prisons. (Not sure what they will do with existing transgender women currently serving time in women's prisons. But I feel certain that any trans woman committing a sex crime in prison will be removed.)

The biggest impact could be the passport situation.

I don't see a problem with insurance UNLESS the insurance companies want a way out of paying for HRT. I get Tricare is a different beast, but members have "paid" for it through service. Once a child of member becomes an adult, will be dependent on whatever insurance they get.

My college-aged daughter is concerned our insurance company will stop covering her medications because news sites are reporting the gender order will also prevent taxpayer funds from being used for gender-transition health care. That might mean just at facilities run by the government but it could also impact people with federal health insurance like Tricare. I’m hoping she’s reading wrong but I’m worried.

They have indicated they intend to mess with meds. I don’t know how possible it is but you ahoudl talk to your doctor about having a backup supply and how to handle it if the worst happens.

Hope for it to be okay, but have a plan.

The sports thing is likely to be at the college level since that's the only are the government has authority (due to federal funding). As for restricting access to HRT, that would bad for the makers of HRT, who I assume have made heft donations as needed, so I don't see that happening.

The biggest one he has control over is the X on the passport thing. However, the wheels of government move slowly (updating forms, procedures etc) when it comes to stuff like this, and I wonder if they'd even need to file a notice of proposed rulemaking on this?

It's hard to predict exactly how things will shake out but as someone with a trans family member, we're mostly worried about his passports, at least in the short term. If you have a passport that has a gender marker that's different from your birth certificate, there may be issues. Obviously for other people there are other fears, but that's it for us

I expect once he's done all the easy things that he will declare victory and say he's a huge winner. I would be shocked if he put any political capital behind pushing Congress to pass any of the bills that are in the works because passing laws is hard, they don't have sixty seats in the Senate, and they have much higher priorities than transgender people and they're well aware that they likely only have two years to work on getting their wish list through (since the first mid-term election is usually pretty unfavorable to the President).

How much do you all think he will follow through with his promises?
