"Sorry kids, no ice cream for you! Mommy has a few vanity pounds to lose. Excuse me while I go out into the dark for a refreshing walk in the 18 degree weather."

Just don’t have it in the house. Go for a walk when the craving hits.

I'm sure someone will tell you that kids shouldn't have ice cream and you should just throw it away.

Depending on how tall you are, 10 pounds can indeed be a crisis. I am 5’3” and 10 pounds is almost 2 clothing sizes for me personally and I look and feel just horrible if I gain that much.

Ice cream is tricky because it’s high in sugar and sugar is addictive- when I start a nightly habit of a couple of squares of chocolate I find myself wanting more and more. I think American companies put SO MUCH sugar in these processed foods. I was abroad for 3 weeks and could enjoy treats and snacks and it wasn’t nearly as problematic. I have to occasionally go cold turkey and get my sugar fix from fruit for awhile. Then I buy a chocolate bar and entertain myself with that for awhile, then go back to fruit/no sweets at night.

Sugar free chocolate pudding and a decent squirt of regular cool whip or canned whipped cream.

Small bit of ice cream - think the little rolled serving spoon thumb they give you at a fancy restaurant portion size.

Each of these is about 100 calories.

+1 on the good chocolate. I’ve been working on a bar of bittersweet chocolate, and it’s sweet enough to be satisfying. I can also stop at one or two squares.

Hot tea is also a good idea!

Yeah I don't find that weird diet fixes are satisfying at all...that's what makes a lot of people give up and just eat all the ice cream. For me personally, sugar free chocolate pudding and whipped cream are satisfying much of the time, but if I was craving dessert and ate greek yogurt or a protein shake that would only make me sad and feel like a gross tasting chore.

Similar, and one heaping teaspoon usually satisfies.

Mix vanilla greek yogurt, peanut butter, and honey and stick it in the freezer - at least if you eat it you will be getting a lot of protein!

pick something that comes in single serve packages so you can control how much and not derail.

I agree with the one spoonful - you gotta live and this should not wreck your diet.

If you just need something sweet try a Fairlife protein shake.

When I feel this way I have a very small bowl of frozen yogurt and eat it with a demitasse spoon. There’s something about the small spoon that helps to stretch it out . Hits the craving with minimal calories.

Make a frozen protein yogurt

Or have something savory to kill your sweet tooth (pickles are great for this)

I have been doing better and better with my diet/nutrition. Focusing on high protein and macros and exercising (walking/weights) more but after dinner I crave something sweet and ice cream (which is in the house because of the kids) feels irresistible. Do I need to just take a mind over matter approach to this or is something is there something I can do to reduce these cravings? Help! I need to lose about 10lbs and build muscle.
