OP, make sure to get your child an IEP or 504 plan.

The SWS program you’re talking about isn’t lottery placed and isn’t a normal gen ed classroom. Is your kid in a gen ed classroom or self contained? SWS’ program is sort of halfway between.

No you wont' get into SWS.

Yes if you're in bounds, Maury has to take him

You aren't going to get into SWS starting mid year unless placed there as part of an IEP...and that's only likely to happen if your child needs a self contained class that SWS has and it has space. The odds are very low.

He’ll be fine there - I don’t think any other school will be better or worse. The best thing was probably that they did a lot of small group pullouts which helped my kid make friends with other kids. I think the real question is academics - they were pretty generous with pullouts but I’m not sure how effective they were. So you’ll probably want to do tutoring as well (but probably the same as any school).

We are moving back to DC from the west coast next year and will likely move back into our house, which is inbounds for Maury.

Our DS has an ASD diagnosis. He had an IEP, but is generally low needs, is not disruptive, and doesn’t have behavior issues, fortunately. Hoping to hear about experiences at Maury from parents with ASD kids at the school.

I’ve heard that SWS is great, but we won’t be back until the fall when the school year has already started and my understanding is that SWS is lottery based? How can we participate in the school lottery if we’re not back yet? And if we’re not back, until September or October, is there anyway to get into SWS?. Our DS is a 2nd grader, so he’s guaranteed a spot if we live inbound for Maury, right?

Thanks!
