It depends, how many countries and US states have you been to OP?

OP, you can trust yourself. Trust that you have a preference for right now, and there's no need to figure out why you happen to have your current preference.

Like any hobby, interest ebbs and flows. No need to define yourself as an enthusiast/or not an enthusiast.

Plane travel and airports are really unappealing to us now. We traveled a lot but lost the urge.

This is the one in Switzerland. I just looked at the receipt and it's $230 a night. It's not luxurious, but it looks nice enough.

I traveled extensively in my 20s and 30s mostly with friends. When I got married in my late 30s, I married into a very tall family where air travel is not comfortable. Add to that my DH's lack of flexibility with schedules and unexpected issues, it is no fun anymore. I am so glad I travelled young!

Would you mind sharing the one you are using in Switzerland?

Keep in mind that hostels, especially in Europe, are nicer now than they once were. Perhaps try them out again?

I'm staying at one with my family in Switzerland this spring and we are paying $300 for one night. So, maybe aim for expensive hostels?

If I were you I would head to Lake Atitlan in Guatemala and stay in one of their hotels that has casitas and nice rooms as well as a bunk room. I've loved this one, but it's under new management, so who knows:

There's a lot of the north American west I haven't seen. I traveled a lot when I was young and have flown to Europe and the British Isles a handful of times over the last decade.

I research national parks out west. I am going to one next month.

Yes! I realized I was forcing the travel aspect and had some so much and even lived abroad. I realized I do love the luxury aspect of being pampered and now prioritize special resorts and hotels with great rooms and views. That got me more excited about it.

Age 50 was the point I realized I had done basically everything I wanted to in life and was OK with coming to my later years. Then I got diagnosed with a life shortening illness and really wasn’t terribly upset about it. I’m more selective in what I choose to do and how I choose to spend my time. This year I’m focusing on regular meditation and dance. Travel is difficult on my body and the environment so I do things I really want to do And that’s it. It’s actually quite freeing.

I have always loved to travel. It has kind of been my thing. I have done long trips and solo trips and been to many parts of the world over the years. Cognitively I am still interested - new people, places, experiences are still of interest to me but the lived experience of being there is no longer so fun. Years ago I did the backpacker hostel and then upgraded over the years to airbnbs or basic hotels. I think that while this is great for comfort, it is far more isolating. I used to love sharing stories and talking travel with everyone at the hostels. I have also seen and done a lot now and while there are occasional wow moments, a lot of it just starts to look like other places. I have also done resorts, group travel, travel with a friend, etc. I turn 50 in a year and was planning to do a long trip but my enthusiasm for planning it has tanked. I feel like I travel now for the sake of travelling but I also get bored at home!

Anyone else start to lose the love of travel? DId you pivot to something else?
