Baltimore ski warehouse!
I would never trust Facebook marketplace. You must have the bindings checked.

I just noticed that OP said they will take one trip a winter. Does that mean only taking one overnight trip with other day trips, or just one trip total? If it’s just one trip, then by all means, don’t buy anything. It will be much cheaper to rent, especially for kids, and it won’t take up storage space.

If you like your rental gear, make note of the brand, model, size and it's likely you will be able to buy it used somewhere within 1-2 years.

I'm an experienced intermediate skier who hadn't owned equipment since high school. I used rental opportunities to settle on what boot brands to shop for when I went to buy.

+1. I live in a ski town, and even though it was really easy to get used ski gear for the kids, we always did seasonal rentals when they were young, because you can swap out during the season if they outgrow their gear. Kids need larger skis and boots pretty much every year, so it makes more sense to rent, rather than buy.

When they reached middle school age and needed better quality skis, we bought them secondhand, but by then, we knew exactly what we wanted for each kid in terms of length, waist, rocker, camber, stiffness etc. Skis have a lot of different metrics - for beginners, don’t bother learning them, just get a beginner ski package. If you buy piecemeal, you are at higher risk for ending up with non beginner friendly gear.

We rent for the kids through sun and ski for the season. It's worth it and we take our stuff out west.

You can also try Play it Again Sports and Replay Sports, but they usually don't have much ski gear.

There are also ski swaps in the area, but in October / November. Check out this site:

Play It Again Sports. There's one in Frederick that we go to. They have lots of ski equipment, IMO. DS just got a brand new pair there actually for a really great price. His friend also got some stuff there. We bought all of our kids ski equipment there when they were younger, too. Kept having to go back because they kept growing. We stopped several years ago, but now young adult DS goes by himself.

Some of the local ski stores do a yearly swap, but it’s too late for that this year.
I would Google dc area ski swaps and put it on your calendar. We did this every year when our kids were little. There’s no point in buying new stuff when they outgrow it yearly and if you are just skiing around here, it’s probably better to have older equipment that you don’t mind getting scratched up on rocks.

We are all beginning skiers and only do one trip a winter, plus having growing children, so not looking to invest in high quality equipment (skis, boots, poles, helmet) at this time. Facebook marketplace has a ton of equipment, but it's pretty overwhelming to try to figure out what's good enough quality and worth the price. Plus driving all over creation for each individual piece of equipment.

Are there any good stores or physical locations to get ski equipment?
