Send a text to group chat for your son’s sports team. Someone will have a younger/older sibling who can check in on the cat. My dog allergic nephew had to go the er after one night in our house. We had sent our non shedding doodle away to be boarded 5 days prior to his visit and had a professional deep clean and hepa purifiers going nonstop, but it wasn’t enough. Fortunately, he recovered quickly, but I felt awful. I have heard cat dander is worse.

Go on Rover now, read reviews and start whatever their process is (it's a meet and greet with dogs). There are over 100 sitters available in my area for THIS weekend who can do drop-ins, which is what I think of as being the big pro with cats, that they don't require as much care as dogs. FWIW there are 70+ who will stay at your house and 100+ who will take the cat in their home. Central DC.

I have a lot of horror stories about cats in pet-friendly hotels. You don't want to be stressing about your cat in a hotel that isn't pet-friendly. One cat got lost in the boxspring and had to be cut out because he was too scared to return through the hole he tore into it. Another cat opened a slider window in a first floor room but was grabbed just in time. My friend's cat got out when housekeeping inadvertently missed the Do Not Disturb sign. Or maybe the cat took it down? We'll never know. Final cat story: cat was thwarted from even entering because it meowed in agony as it was being snuck in.

Don't you have a neighbor kid who will look in on the cats? Catsitting is so much easier to find than dog sitting. Our neighbor kid is 9 and takes care of all of the cats in the neighborhood. Adults on our street have also done it in a pinch.

You're hoping someone will say it's no big deal, but the consensus is that this is rude and also a lot of really stupid subterfuge just so your kid can be running up and down the same hallway for 15 minutes before bedtime with a bunch of other kids that he's seen all day anyway. If you really can't get a cat sitter, ask a family on the team to host him and pay for half (or more) of their room.

We have an automatic dry food feeder and a plug in water fountain that are about 40$ each on Amazon. Don’t sneak the cat into a hotel. That’s a rotten thing to do if they don’t allow pets.

This. I deliberately stay in pet free hotels because I have allergic asthma. Don't be a jerk.

It's a night or two. Your cat can be left alone with food and water for a day or two.

If I was in that room after you (or even several persons after you), I would be miserable, and likely end up in the hospital with my throat closing up. Please do not sneak your cat into the hotel

I did this once. It was when I was driving here to DC from law school for my 2L summer job. I had my cat in the car and I didn’t realize it would be really hard to find a motel to sleep in. I finally found one. It was a very stressful night, because I knew I wasn’t necessarily supposed to have the cat in there, and the cat kept getting in between the curtain and the window where people could see him. I hardly slept because of it. But that’s me, I’m an overly anxious person. And that was a motel where you could actually see the cat in the window.
