Bullis has said applications are up this year. Nothing more specific. But just around my orbit, people are looking to leave MCPS.

Populations fluctuate. More friends/family/classmates are moving to private than I have ever seen before in the last 15 years. Is it anecdotal, sure. But it's noticeable, at least to me.

MCPS was tanking before covid and we bailed shortly after covid. There's no stability with faculty, too many fights, the bathrooms are an issue all in itself, and that's not even getting into education. The year my DC applied, a writing assignment had to be specially created for him in order to apply to Bullis because they had no writing assignments that year. I feel terribly, I had intended for DC to return to public for HS but it's only gotten worse.

I think a lot of it is a change in consumption patterns among the upper middle/lower upper class. A lot more people are willing to spend on schools for a variety of reasons - education itself, a good social experience, a fun sports experience, etc. I’d be surprised if apps are up dramatically this year, but there does seem to be a multiyear trend upward across the board for private schools.

Every year people post that applications are up, that it’s the toughest year ever, etc…

Applications are generally up in the last few years but no real evidence of massive YoY growth.

It’s below pre-COVID levels and projected to decline over the coming years. But you knew that, right?

I'm not PP but enrollment (growth/decline) will vary by district. Even if population of kids will be declining in coming years (which is what I think you are referring to) - when families move into desirable districts, that sort of concentration can offset the general demographic population trends.

+1. FCPS is run by a bunch of woke cretins who have done everything in their power to send higher-income families fleeing to private schools. The demand for solid alternatives will exceed the supply until more reputable private schools open.

Our school, which is not considered highly desirable on this board and is really geared towards a very specific type of student/family, said kindergarten applications were their highest ever this year.

I don't think FCPS redistricting has much to do with it, though anecdotally I see a few "don't redistrict our school" signs while driving around somewhat in our area of Fairfax County. I think it's perceived education quality. Or at least that's what I'm hearing from friends.

Between the GDS letter sent to families that siblings are at risk and the statistic that Holton applications (for lower school at least) are up 60% this year, it seems like it's going to be a super competitive year across schools.

Anyone else hear anything from their school/other schools about whether application numbers are up? Would have thought now that publics are mostly recovered from COVID messes that numbers would be down but guess not...
