Can you not afford to pay up front for them, and then have them pay you back? Having them pay 20% more for a third of the data seems like a bad deal all around. They could pay the $30 a month to you and get more data or maybe you split the savings and they pay $27 a month ($25 for the service plus 8% interest on the loan).

Verizon plans and costs are never easy for me to figure out. Plus I feel the options and costs are different for each household. I think you should log into your Verizon account and see your options. Sometimes adding an additional unlimited phone can reduce your other phones costs. I think what you might want for your kiddo is an unlimited plan that has slow speed.

What about StraightTalk or Mint?

Finally getting my newly minted teen a phone for their birthday. Planning on a refurbished iPhone 12 mini with 5G as a balance of affordability and functionality - we're an Apple family.

I'm looking for the cheapest annual plan I can get for her. We're starting with the phone decently locked down - limited browsing, limited apps - although obviously that will change as she grows. At home she'll be on wifi. School is away for the day with phones, so she won't use it at school. Since iMessage and MMS use data she'll need some data to do things like text us at activities, but I wouldn't think a ton, at least to start with.

DH and I are on Verizon on a plan we share with my extended family. It's a decently cheap plan, but probably overkill for DD.

So what can I get that's cheaper than an unlimited plan but still good?
