So if you're not used to cooking, at your friend's house with a new baby isn't the time to try it out.

We're still friends, fwiw, that incident of course wasn't enough to override that.

Yeah, people coming over to cook or "finish" a meal and then asking for all kinds of equipment and leaving a mess are the worst.

My best friend made us this huge pasta bake and I don't think she realized how flimsy the disposable aluminum container she put it in was. I was bringing it inside and was halfway through the garage when it just completely gave way, I lost my grip on it and toppled over onto the floor. I just started laughing. It had been such a horrible week that it just seemed like "oh yeah this definitely would happen". I took a picture of it and sent it to my friend along with a Gif from friends of them eating the cheesecake off the floor.

Now whenever we do meal trains or bring meals to someone's house we always tell everyone not to use those containers if you have anything heavy!!

I helped my dad when he was recovering from his shoulder replacement. The dishes his church friends dropped off were crazy. I remember a lime jello with chopped spinach as well as a hot canned chicken salad with almonds.

If you have kids you always have food. Used to be baggies of cheerios, lol.

One time my MIL’s friend and friend’s dd and 3 year old granddaughter came to see our infant twins. Not only did they not bring us anything, but the 3 year old was hungry, so they asked for a snack. They let’s her wander around our house while she ate a granola bar, dropping crumbs everywhere. I was dumbfounded.

You’re mad that a 3 year old got hungry at your house?

Of course not. I’m annoyed that they chose to visit with a hungry 3 year old, brought nothing, asked us for food, and made a mess. We had newborn preterm twins. If you aren’t going to be helpful, the least you can do is make your visit help-neutral.

None, honestly. I'm not picky and don't look a gift horse in the mouth.

Terrible!

I ended up staying 2 extra nights in the hospital after having my first (complications) and my ILs, who were staying in my house at the time, ate down our freezer stash of meals!

😲 How can anyone who has had a baby be such a selfish clod?!

Obviously a meal that sickens people is the worst, but as far as meals that are lovingly prepared according to food safety standards and food tolerances, it sucks to receive something that looks and smells very enticing, but is terrible: a soup that’s way too salty, meat that’s all gristle, something that would be perfect if it didn’t contain that one overpowering ingredient that you just can’t stand, like blue cheese or cilantro.

The absolute worst is receiving a meal that you know someone really sacrificed to make (maybe it’s an extremely time consuming dish to prepare or they bought very expensive ingredients with your pleasure in mind, even though they have a tight budget), but you really dislike it, so it’s hard to choke it down, but you’d feel super guilty just throwing it out.

I know someone who brought an uncooked lasagna in the summer in Phoenix AZ. Nobody's turning on the oven for that.

I know, we should be grateful…

But in name of humor, what’s a meal you’ve received on your doorstep from a friend or acquaintance that was just terrible and ended up not being very helpful after all?
