It disgusts me that they would say that let alone in front of a teacher, especially if they only vaguely understand what they’re saying. I hope that DD does punch them. FWIW, she is shrimpy but strong from her sport, and based on our practice together they boys would not be getting up to retaliate if she chose to defend herself.

OP and I hope that’s not the case. I followed up and my kid said another kid who’s been saying it told them that it means fat. And the last time my kid got called that, they said “I know what that means, so-and-so says it’s fat and you need to shut up.” They replied no it doesn’t, it means you’re smart, in a snickering way. So maybe they did intend for it to mean dumb as a brick?

This group is also running around calling themselves sigma, but I think in understand that one.

We live in NYC and boys use “brick” to mean “cold” - literally to convey that it is cold with regard to the temperature. It means nothing untoward for teens in Brooklyn.

Sorry that your kid is having to deal with this weirdness. That stinks.

Other slang I have recently heard includes the following (Brooklyn 14 year boy —> standard English translation):
Brick = cold
Dayroom = boring
Frontin’ = Lying (apparently it no longer means “putting up a false facade” and now it just means lying)
TP = too personal (not toilet paper, which is what I thought they were talking about), like someone is being “extra” or over the top
Bussin’ = great
My heart = close friend

My kid is getting called this with a lot of snickering and meanness and I'm at a loss (as are they) for what it means and if it's a big deal, beyond of course the fact that there is mean intent behind it. I can't find anything on places like urban dictionary that explain it. Is this made up at just our school or something in wider use with a meaning that I should be aware of?
