I expect my kids to have some outdoor time. Take them out for some fresh air if you can.

I do wonder WHEN this will change though. The temps are not going to be sustainably high enough to melt the playgrounds clean. My kids are wearing boots when they go outside at home, but they dont wear boots to school.

Yes, it was in the 40s, which is a great winter day. Blacktops should have been plowed or shoveled by now.

I taught first grade. Have you any idea how much time it takes to take a first grade class outside in the snow? And, how to take care of issues when you come back inside? Wet gloves, wet boots, etc.
I taught in a snowy climate for a year. It is a mess. Sure, we made the effort, but not daily. It eats into the instruction time. And, the kids I taught all had the appropriate clothing because it was necessary. Not all FCPS kids have the right clothing.

I agree. That’s why I said we aren’t used to it when to the point where that can happen. But can we have access to the black top to get some fresh air? Hopefully yes! No one wants to keep these kids inside for 2 weeks.

DP also on lower elementary. I also don’t want 3-4 classes on the blacktop with nothing to do.

The blacktop is mostly plowed at my kids’ school. They had someone out with a plow blade on a tractor as early as Wednesday right after the storm. It’s not a perfect job and there are lots of big snow piles in the way, but it’s not too bad. The sidewalks and paths for walkers on the neighborhood streets are another story! They are covered in packed down snow and ice.

I asked and they had indoor recess today. I imagine the playground is not in good shape even if the blacktop is decent.

My kids didn’t go out today but said someone plowed the black top today, so I’m hopeful about tomorrow

I’d be very shocked if any school had a shoveled, accessible blacktop at this point. And the playgrounds will take even longer because they just need to melt. It’s going to be a lot of indoor recess until it all melts. Just be patient.

My children said their school's blacktop was not shoveled and they were not allowed to go outside for recess today. Anyone else?
