NP and I would actually hope teachers (aka full grown adults) would be held to a higher behavior standard than students. Isn't that reasonable?

This is a terrible story. But, I think it could happen in any school. What happens next with the personnel issues will reveal a lot about HR and the administration at Lewis. I don't think you can blame them for this incident occurring. But, how it is handled will be key. This is obviously something that is likely personal to the two teachers. Two men?

My son doesn't know the whole story. It was before 1st period and he heard a bunch of cussing. He went to the hall to look and saw the two teachers yelling. That is when the teacher snapped and pushed the disabled teacher to the ground and continued cussing him out. The teacher was back on Friday.

Today, students in a few classrooms heard two of our staff members involved in a verbal altercation with inappropriate language and shoving in the hallway. I am very sorry that these students did not see these staff members modeling professionalism in that moment.

I also want you to know that I take any disruptive behavior in our school seriously, whether it involves a student or a staff member. Every person in our building deserves to feel safe, valued, and respected at Lewis High School. I am working through this personnel matter in partnership with our human resources department to ensure that appropriate action is taken.

If your child is expressing anxiety or fear about what they may have seen, FCPS has the support of the CrisisLink Regional Hotline at 703-527-4077 or text “NEEDHELP” to 85511.

This is not who we are as a community. I fully expect that we will do better moving forward. I hope that everyone will have a safe and restful break and we can return with a positive start to the new year.

DP....the point is this could have been a lot more. There is never an excuse to knock down any other human(disabled or not)....but we don't know what was said so the question was did your child witness the entire interaction? Admin could have found out that both sides were abusive and took care of the problem with HR. I know FCPS parents think they know it all but they don't. We also know everyone wants to talk about Lewis because they are afraid of boundary changes so I think it's ok that a question was asked for the story from beginning to end.

Again... There is nothing that could be said at any point in the altercation to justify knocking someone down.
How this incident happened is irrelevant to the anti redistricting crowd. It's the students they don't want their kids near.
