This is OP. Wow that is a crazy long time of coughing. I ordered the ivy leaf syrup today too, thanks for the tips and commiseration.

This worked for me as well. My body needed a break from the coughing to recover. I think it was causing continuing inflammation.

Teen DD had it earlier in the fall and her experience was similar. The cough lasted a good month or so.

Main question is how long is typical to see cough improvement with antibiotics. Thank you.

we all got sick mid-November, right before Thanksgiving. it's about a week now since all of us (2 adults, 2 kids 5 and 9, and a grandma) stopped coughing... it was insane.

this syrup did help ease the coughing, especially at night. there is also adult version.

Just had it in our house. We were told there can be an increase in coughing after a few days of antibiotics as all that gunk is “breaking up” and coming out, but that it should get better after that. One DC had to do a second dose of a different antibiotic to kill it all off.

This can take at least a week if not longer.

I was diagnosed Christmas day and started antibiotics then. I felt better 3 days later. But I am still coughing up phlem. Not enough to be majorly disruptive but enough to notice. Particular at night. I went back to thr dr thos week and she said up to 6 weeks is normal and to keep taking otc meds.

Thanks for sharing ideas and experiences. We have not given the OTC meds a try, but I did go out and get some Delsym based on the comment here. Will try tonight.

I was diagnosed with walking pneumonia the weekend before thanksgiving, took antibiotics for a week and was feeling better by day 2 or 3, but the cough persisted through mid-December. Cough was brutal and none of the OTC meds I tried did much for it just felt like I needed wait until the gunk cleared itself on on its own.

I just got over it without antibiotics. It took me just over two weeks to get over the cough and cackling noise in my lungs. I still blow my nose (week 3). My 20 DD recovered much faster than me.
