I think this is a personal thing and is going to depend on how you handle and tolerate packing/unpacking.

I have ADHD, so I have a very hard time packing and unpacking, and I absolutely have to unpack everything at the hotel and hang it and put it in drawers. Stuff still being in the suitcase and me having to go through it to find stuff makes me very anxious and quickly turns into a pile of mess. So for that reason, I wouldn't change hotels/rooms unless I had to. Because I don't want to have to repack everything and then unpack it again. Especially with kids and needing to deal with their stuff too.

Many who have an easier time with this would see this as a non issue. If I were like that, I totally would change hotels.

Adding...we never unpack so that part is not an issue.

Wait, what? How? Why?

I want as little to do with a hotel room as possible. My clothes (aside from dress clothes that need to be hung) remain in the suitcase. Nothing is left behind. Everything is right where I can see it. Everyone's clothes are separate. I can close it all up from the cleaners. I am a minimal packer too so I guess that helps. Do must people truly unpack like empty the suitcase like you were a home??

+1 we do not unpack .. ever.

Don't see what the problem is. After breakfast you check out, which should be quick these days, go to new hotel and leave bags, return in the afternoon and check in and have a short respite before dinner. Between the two hotels you have time for sightseeing and lunch.

DP- no way do we unpack! Hotels are gross and it's too easy to forget something in a drawer. We use those folding stands, set up the suitcases, and just pull what we need. Dirty clothes go in the zip pocket right away. Toiletries in the bathroom (don't forget your razor in the shower) and sometimes we put shoes and coats in closets just for tidiness/sanity. Also shoes on travel gross me out too. I'd rather chuck them in the wardrobe. Those are hard to forget since we all bring just the one pair usually.

Changing once is not a big deal.

Not a big deal at all. We've gone on lots of trips where we switch hotels every 3-4 nights.

Not a big deal at all. Try to have a full day activity for the switch day. You can leave your bags at the new hotel before check-in. Travelers doing all the time.

We've done it. Slightly annoying but fine. We didn't unpack our bags, which we usually do.

Depends on how far apart they are and, most importantly, if you can get late checkout for the one you are leaving or early checkin for the one you are going to. Being able leave luggage at the new hotel while waiting for check-in at the minimum.

I found a great hotel at a discounted rate for four days. I would have kids in tow and am curious if it’s not worth the savings when you factor in any complexity of making a room change mid trip.
