Receiving fewer applications allows them to actually read them thoroughly, instead of skimming and missing stuff like everyone else.

Georgetown has a great admissions system. My DS was rejected and went to George Washington instead (Elliott School, because he wanted international affairs), but I was very pleased by the Georgetown requirements. They have high standards and don't feel the need to attract the masses. Good for them!

I think there are very good reasons for Georgetown not to move to Common App. If they did, the flood of apps would be overwhelming and yield would go down. Then they would feel forced to move from REA to ED, a bit like BC did following a single year of being overwhelmed by unrestricted EA, under the then-new admissions director.

The app really isn't difficult, albeit not exactly a high-quality website. Still requiring interviews and scores sets them apart.

Agree. Georgetown is special. I think the acceptance rate would be closer to 5% if they used the common app! I also love the non-binding early decision - that's how all schools should be required to do it.

No need for Georgetown to change. Why should they? The only reason would be to get more applicants so they can lower their acceptance rate and increase their ranking. But guess what? Thankfully, they're not focused on that. They take applications from only those who truly want to attend, so they yes, they get fewer applicants. But the students who attend, do so happily. Jesuit spirit alive and well at Georgetown.

As a longtime employee, I can tell you that change and Georgetown are antonyms. I would not hold my breath.

Deacon retiring would make sense simply because of his age. He's been there since the 1960s/70s, if I recall. Longer than the President who retired.

I'm not so sure they go to Common App just yet. Their portal is kinda annoying, though. They did add a text box for the special talent essay, yet the other essays still are an uploaded PDF. I don't understand why they didn't simply make text boxes for those too.

I'd be interested to know what they do with the lower scores.

The president finally stepped down after a stroke last spring. He had been there since the 80s. I expect a lot of changes down the pike. I wonder if they will join common app as the old president was a. hold-out for their own application.

I heard via high school based counselor that Georgetown may be moving away from requiring seeing all test scores for class of 2030. Can anyone confirm?
