My teen never does HW but he does not take any AP classes. He has a social part time job. I call it social because it’s a job that’s all teens and all seem to like working weekends and hanging out together. They often drive each other home and call saying they stopping at somewhere to get something to eat. He will often say he’s going to hang out at someone’s house for a while after a shift and then come home. There is a lot of Chipotle, tropical smoothie etc. places like that. Not anything fancy.

He’s picking boring people to ask. He need to look around for one of the connector type kids - the almost annoyingly extroverted ones who “know everyone” - some kids don’t want to take a social risk inviting someone new to their group

I was a sociology major and love patterns, and this is what I’ve noticed - I have junior and freshman girls.

Kids do things, but it’s winter so the free options are limited and the teens get in kind of a slump this time of year until the weather gets better. They are mostly cycling between each others houses and then eating out, maybe the mall or a movie. Thrift shopping.

Parks, swimming holes and the inevitable parties start up in late spring. The friend groups start diversifying based on who they’ve connected with in class this year and in spring they pull the trigger on hangouts.
There are teens hanging out, he just has to infiltrate those particular friend groups, if he’s extroverted enough he will. Those are the kids who “party” though. Too many boys are addicted to video games, and that’s kind of all many do all winter unless they have girlfriends. I’m not in DC but the ski bus seems to be where some boys connect and have fun - do you have that there ?

16 yr old boy has Saturday sports and Sunday hangs with buddies watching football, 17 yr old DD hangs with BF or her friends at the mall. Lack of homework is ridiculous especially for honors and AP classes. They both start jobs in spring and summer (fall and winter athletes.)

My 14/17 year olds don’t go to drinking parties, but they meet up with friends to get Boba or grab lunch on the weekends. They are home a lot on the weekend nights, which did surprise me, but they’re just not with the party crowd.

I have a girl so it's different, but she volunteers Saturday mornings, then hangs out with friends in the afternoon and often has a sleepover, then Sundays often goes to Japantown (we are in SF) to hang out there.

I so wish he was out Fridays and Saturdays. I don't mind driving him and any other kid. But OMG, he messages his classmates "oh, I got hW", "oh, I am staying in watching Commanders". That's so boring.

Honors here are regular classes and not much homework. Ap has tons and weekly tests.

I have 3 teens... they go to parties, out to eat, to friends' homes, to sports games, and yes---to bars (fake IDs).
They're out pretty much every Friday and Saturday nights. The oldest is home from college but is going back soon.

My kids play sports and hangout with their team mates or their friends at their homes. And HW ofc.

We are new to the area and my social teen DS is suffering because he cannot find anyone to hang out with on weekends. They are either doing their HW or being homebodies. We moved here from Europe, teens are everywhere, hanging out in coffee shops, dance clubs for teens, arcades...It's so weird here...

Yes, he joined clubs at his HS but it's not the same.
