My first guess is migraine.

My migraines were similar as a teen but changed over time. What is he throwing up? Food or mucus.

This is what I was going to say to OP. Are you sure your DS is not being exposed to an allergen? When my DS is exposed, his reaction is to vomit and then he's complete fine a few hours later.

Norovirus doesn't always have to be "So severe." Last time my family got norovirus, I was only sick for a window of about 4 hours, then I was okay.

My kid goes through spells like this. But he has food allergies and almost every time it happens, it’s within a couple of hours of him eating something “risky” (a new restaurant, from an ice cream shop) so I often think he may have eaten a trace amount of an allergen.

He feels “off”, throws up a few times, rests, is suddenly completely fine.

My college boyfriend used to get migraines where he was nauseous or vomiting all day, had to lay in a dark room for the duration of the day. It started in his teens. Worth checking in with a neurologist if this continues

The headache can be followed by nausea/vomiting.

Everyone in my house had this the week before Christmas. We each only threw up 1-2 times in a short period. No lingering stomach pain or loss of appetite except in one of my kids.

If it happens regularly and in connection with a headache then it sounds like a migraine. If not, then it was probably just something he ate or a mild virus

My stomach really hurt a lot last week for a few hours. I threw up and then felt ok. I was worried it was norovirus since it is going working, but nothing else ever happened and no one else on my family got it. Either a stomach bug or food that was bad.

My 16 year old threw up once out of nowhere last weekend and then had a headache and cold symptoms for a few days.

My 13 year old was sent home from school with a bad stomach ache this week and the nurse said there were several cases of norovirus at the school. He never threw up but has had a headache for a few days.

My 16 year old gets what I like to call a five hour stomach bug.

Last week, for example, he was fine and then suddenly had a bad headache and an hour later, threw up. Oddly we had a pediatrician appt for a totally unrelated skin issue that same day, so we went, he threw up there again, tested negative for flu, and doctor said it was probably just a stomach virus (but not norovirus since that is so severe).

We went home, he slept for 2-3 hours, woke up and felt fine. Hungry. Ate. Had a mild lingering headache but really back to normal.

This happens to him maybe once a year, and has since he was pretty young. And he gets "normal" stomach bugs too, that last for a few days.

Is this a stomach bug that he just fights off really effectively? the other thought I had was that it could be a migraine? But do kids this young get them? And the headache seems to be a typical flu or stomach bug headache, not the nightmare headaches I hear from migraine sufferers. We have no family history of migraines, btw.
