I think if you call and say “I want him in the building now, but I understand you can’t get him into the right classes for 2nd semester schedule until later” they’ll understand.

They are required to take him as he’s a minor who has not yet graduated. However, you might not like his class placement if you rush them. He could get put wherever there’s an empty seat and might get stuck there for second semester.

There is an enrollment blackout for high school credit courses, but it is 1/28.

Agree with others- walk in with completed paperwork AND student and get him registered.

Exactly. It makes no sense to delay the enrollment paper work. I get waiting until the new semester starts for him to attend classes though.

Only thing I can think is maybe the system obligates them to give him a schedule immediately, which is why they’re trying to push off the process?

This. Email the principal, assistant principals and the registrar. Your child should not be out of school because a counselor is busy.

I’ve completed all the paperwork and provided the transcripts. The challenge is getting on the counselor’s schedule because they are all busy creating schedules for the current students for next semester and trying to justify there’s no point in him enrolling until the new semester starts.

Which school? They are required to take him if he shows up with all paperwork in order. Show up on Monday with vaccinations, proof of residency, ID, etc and tackle the front desk staff. I would wait until the second semester for an elementary and middle schooler, but not for a high schooler, every class counts.

THis is what I would do too. They should enroll your kid as soon as you provide all the paperwork. But I do agree that it does not make sense for your child to start classes until the next marking period.

Honestly, before you contact the board of Ed or anything else, I would just fill out every single piece of paperwork that you need to enroll your child, gather up all of the required materials on the website, and walk into the school.

The counselors are probably busy, because the second semester begins on Jan. 30, and all HS students will have new schedules starting then. It's probably logical to start classes then, but I think you should be allowed to enroll sooner.

Which school? Do you have his transcripts?

Quick question before I contact the board of Ed… Cause I’m sure somebody on here knows. I’m trying to register DS for high school and they said that the counselors are too busy setting up schedules and this semester hasn’t ended yet so it'll probably be the end of the month/February before he can start.

That can’t be right. Any experts on here?
