Sounds amazing! While I generally agree booking tours directly is preferable as one PP noted, I think booking thru the FS is a great idea in Egypt as they have better connections and accountability.

Sounds fine. My main worry with traveling with kids is illness just because it can be so hard to deal with in a foreign place. I’m really focused on handwashing/cleanliness for them.

We went a couple of years ago with kids and had a wonderful time. Amazing history and incredible sights.

I wouldn't book your tours via the hotel--choose a quality tour service and book directly. They'll be more accountable to you and it takes out the middle man, which can lead to communication mishaps. Just make sure your your package is really clear about what parts of your trip are private versus with a group.

Egypt is a military state. If you are in the high tourist areas you will be very safe.

Just came home from Egypt. We are Egyptian American but with private tours it should be fine.

I actually feel really safe in Egypt.

Here is what you need to know. Egypt is a poor country with a garbage, corrupt government. The devaluation of the currency has put her people in pretty dire straits. You need to remember this when you visit and you are wondering why everyone wants money from you. You need to remember that beyond the tourist area, Luxor is desperately, horribly poor. Like people live in shacks without bathrooms or real roofs kind of poor.

I don’t believe the pp who says pedophiles were talking about children out in the open. In the decades I have visited and lived in Egypt I have not seen or heard such a thing, and I’ve seen a lot. That is bizarre.

It's fine as long as you are staying in touristy spots. The borders are always gonna be sketchy. Seeing the pyramids will be well worth it.

Have you read the reviews of traveling to Egypt right now? Why would you subject you and your kids to that???

I'd be more worried about traveler's diarrhea than safety. Hang on to your kids, BTW. My American-Egyptian friend had a deeply unsettling experience when two men started talking about her son in pedophilic terms right in front of her, assuming she did not understand their dialect. But obviously this is one anecdote, and not a general thing.

Fly into Cairo, get private transport arranged from Four Seasons Cairo. Stay one day with a guided tour arranged by Four Seasons to see the pyramids.

Fly to Luxor, stay at 5 star hotel, use private tours arranged by hotel.

Fly to Sharm el Sheikh Four Seasons, use tours arranged by hotel.

2 kids 8, 10, husband + wife

Is this trip unsafe or risky? I’ve heard so many conflicting things. I want to see the pyramids but heard you really don’t want to stay in Cairo beyond that because that’s the most unsafe areas of the tourist destinations.

Both my husband and I have lived abroad for several years in Asia and Europe. We have been to Africa and Middle East before.
