Sounds fine to me

My son has (had?) a growth plate injury in his arm that, per the orthopedic surgeon, required rest and PT but no cast/surgery. The doctor did an x-ray at the initial appt but didn't do one at the follow up. He said symptoms mirror the injury so since my son felt no pain when examined, he said he was most likely following the expected healing timeline.

I was surprised to hear no additional x-rays and am wondering if that's standard practice? He said if my son had pain at the follow up, he'd order an x-ray but otherwise no need to subject him to additional radiation.
