It's terrible that kids have to ride in the bus rather than study, but MCPS deliberately placed magnets in the two furthest corners of Montgomery County. But this is what you get with a lottery-based magnet.

You should also be able to get a list of MCPS teachers who tutor in math from your child's math teacher. You just need to work with a tutor from a different school.

Ask Peter Ostrander about older magnet students who tutor. My son tutored younger students when he was a senior.

Our 9th grader is in precalc — he took matters into his own hands first by signing up for a teacher Delta math account (so he could access more practice problems w answer keys) and then he figured out that the prior years precalc teacher had posted videos of his lectures and now watches those.

Not at Blair but we have found some of the higher level math teachers not very good. I question if ours even knows the material. They just watch videos to learn it. We got a tutor.

We have found a great math tutor on preply for a reasonable price (under $20 an hour).

If they aren't in Functions or Precalculus, transfer to Geometry.

If they are in Functions, transfer to Precalculus

DC is a 9th grader in Blair math/science magnet and feels like they need extra help or tutoring for math. We are new to mcps and still not sure how to navigate everything. DC (and other classmates) feels like the math teacher isn’t explaining in a way that they completely understand so would like to seek help from someone besides the teacher. Is there any peer tutoring at school available for magnet 9th graders? Or honor society tutoring service? I guess we could hire a private tutor if necessary but figured I would check if school would have any options. Open to any suggestions - thanks !
