Why should MY tax dollars go to pay YOU when you’re not working on a snow day? I have to stay home with my kid on those days and my boss doesn’t pay ME!

I can't work when my employer closes schools - much like I'd imagine you can't work when your employer closes your workplace.

For what it's worth, SEIU employees are your school's support staff - the cafeteria workers, building service workers (though many of them are technically 12 month employees and are working to clear snow when schools are closed), paraeducators, media assistants, secretaries, etc.

I just know that is what my union negotiated for me and I’m happy with it. I certainly don’t get paid very much for my job which involves interacting all day long with your kids. Who I actually love! And I work in a high school!

Aww. Someone didn't properly family plan. Don't have kids you can't take care of. This includes factoring in the fact maybe schools might be closed, you might have a kid with cancer who can't go to school and you can't work while caring for them, etc...etc....

You just thought it'd be fun to dress up a doll it sounds like. This is why schools are raising children these days, because people like you don't know how or want to actually parent.

Calm down, Becky. You aren’t nearly as important as you think you are.

I think it is classified as EMERGENCY as a pay code. If you are a permanent 10-month SEIU employee, you are getting paid for these snow days!

OP here. Thank you! I am permanent employee, but sucks that TPS employees don’t get paid considering the majority of winter break was NPS.

It really does - I was TPT my first two years in MCPS and there were so many days without pay.

NPS.

Sorry.

If you are a para, get cleared to sub and tell your RTSE to use you for coverage on your off periods to catch up on some pay.

I can’t remember if these are considered NPS or if we get paid for snow days.
