There is no class ranking or categorization at all until senior year. Whether you are summa/magna cum laude etc has always only been determined in your culminating year.

Wrong. LCPS ranks by category after Junior year is finished (credits have been applied), halfway through senior year, and after senior year is finished. The class rank and GPA all update accordingly at these three time periods.

That's not fair. If students want to improve in 10th or 11th grade, they don't know where they stand at against peers. They might think they are in top 10% of the class.

It says each school's senior class.
So the student does not know where he/she stands at until he completes senior year.

From: https://sites.google.com/lcps.org/program-of-studies-2024-2025/general-information

Beginning with the Class of 2025 and beyond, the class ranking will transition to the Latin Honor System. This system recognizes individual GPAs and high academic achievement within the top 5%, 10%, and 20% of each school’s senior class. The Latin Honors distinctions are:

Summa Cum Laude (top 5%)

Magna Cum Laude (top 10%)

Cum Laude (top 20%)

Notably, GPAs will be listed on transcripts without specific rankings, but a key will be provided to explain the three levels of Latin Honors. For more information, please see School Board Regulation 5030-B-Reg.

Class rank has been eliminated in LCPS. Last year was the final year for it.

Does LCPS show class rank on grade reports through out the high school. For example, if a student is in top 10% in 11th grade, will it be shown on report card? Similarly after graduation also?
