Cabin John or Wheaton Ice will be closest to you - both have intro hockey group lessons or private lesson instructors on their websites.

Kettler (sorry now Medstar) in Ballston is a good rink for you.

We contacted their private skate teachers and did some lessons within public skates. We also did group lessons at Medstar, St James, and Cabin John.

Just sign your kid up for group lessons. But if you're adamant about only doing private lessons, Canal Park will try to match you with an instructor. https://skatecanalpark.com/privatelessons/

National Sculpture Garden also offers private lessons through Washington Elite Skating School: https://www.nga.gov/visit/ice-rink.html#private

Any suggestions for private skate lessons. I feel like a big group class won't help her figure out whether she really wants to pursue this....and I only want to drive 30 minutes to a rink if she's truly into it! Any suggestions for private skate lessons would be appreciated!

I would encourage skiing and discourage hockey. I signed a burned-out hockey parent sick of staying in crappy stay-to-play hotels and eating crappy food, and driving to rinks at 5 am or 10 pm for games—anything but hockey.

Get on the MoCo rec page, they have tons of classes and you dont have to be a resident. the downside is the classes fill up super fast and you will also see what a shitty job dc does in managing our own facilities and programs in comparison.

Rockville, Greenbelt, and Bowie are going to be your options. 30 mins isn't gonna get you there, I don't think. Maybe Greenbelt would be 40ish, prob.

Ice time is near impossible to get. Private lessons are going to be $$$$$
