Not mountains, but Cape Charles is really nice and family friendly

I would look at Deep Creek -- it is about 3 hour drive from MoCo, and the weather up there is so pleasant in the summer. You can rent a boat with inner tubes to pull behind, and/or also rent floating things to put in the lake near your dock for the kids to play on. There are also things like an arcade, ropes course, etc. There's so many houses there for rent that you can still find a nice one with a dock, I bet.
But I bet there's also stuff left at Lewes/Dewey/Rehobeth. Last year we were able to get something booking with just a week or two advance notice, but the pickings were admittedly very slim.

Looking for ideas for a mid-summer vacation - where to spend a week that is roughly 4 hours drive from DMV (specifically, Montgomery County). Priority is on water (beach or lake), generally relaxing, stuff for kids to do (ages 14, 10). Not looking for a place that only has a lot of hiking (one person in group cannot hike for physical reasons). Probably need to consider hotels at this point because anywhere with mostly house rentals would be full at this point from my prior experience renting houses in Cape May. Have been to Jersey Shore, Bethany, Rehoboth, Ocean City and just looking for some new ideas. I've never really explored going to the west, so would like any ideas of places in the mountains maybe near a lake?
While I love NYC and Philly, I think mid-summer is too hot to really enjoy them (same reason I wouldn't travel to DC in mid-summer).
