If you are in MCPS, the high schools now all have Athletic Trainers - with Athletic Trainer Interns. Serious internship though.

There are few pre-college programs offered by UConn https://precollege-summer.uconn.edu/courses/sports-medicine/, UMiami, UMass, Wake Forest, Rice and others in Sport Medicine field.

+ 1 for data analytics and then work in a sports field. Or BioTech/Biomedical Engineering. Can focus on prosthetics.

To be a physical therapist, you do need a DPT now. It’s not med school, but it is a doctorate.

You need a master’s to be an athletic trainer these days, too.

If he's making mostly B's in high school medical school in unlikely, unless he's just slacking and will pick up the pace in college.
Physical therapy is an option. However, PT programs can be competitive, he will need the grades, and the DPT credential is required. Other options would include kinesiologist/exercise physiology or athletic trainer. If those areas spark his interest, he should try to join the staff of one of teams at a D1 school to get some experience and make connections. If he is interested in engineering, biomedical engineering may be an option.

If he wants to be a doctor, he can major in anything he wants, as long as he completes the pre-med prerequisites. If he thinks he might want to be a physical therapist, that's a different track that only some schools offer. I would not recommend engineering unless he really likes it.

DS is a HS junior and interested in Sports Medicine pathway. Developed interest and curious about the field, since he is an avid sports person. DS is good with Computers & related field (Cyber Security/Robotics), but do not want to pursue career in CS or Cyber. Open for other Engineering fields. We encouraged him for Engg. related fields, but he is still looking towards Sports Medicine or Business majors. Maintains majority B+'s and few A's. Attending pre-college programs in Sports Medicine this summer to get the taste of it. Appreciate sharing your suggestions, for the Sports Medicine pathway, and similar experiences/situations.
