Why do you even care?

Nobody is going to question your kid and say why was this 1000 11 seconds slower than your usual pace for a 1000

Here is the rule. I'm sure the coach requested the split- its a pain for the table to do the splits, they aren't doing them absent a request. It doesn't hurt your swimmer. I don't think it is possible to set up the equipment to get 'automatic' splits- if it is I would like to know how

Calm down…it’s just a split time. Yes it’s official but everyone knows that a LD split on a longer race is going to be much slower than a time from the actual event. That’s why they’re offering both events. It’s just an opportunity for those folks who can’t swim the 1000 to get a time on the books. Yes, it’s official. Usually it’s just coach requested but they may have set up the meet file and touch pads to register the time for everyone to ensure it got captured and not missed.

Can someone post the USA swimming rule?

I'm not sure. Only a few kids had initial splits. I'd have to look at last year's results to see if they did it for everyone.

My kid swam the 1650 yesterday at the distance meet.

In meet mobile it shows them getting their 1650 time AND a 1000 time. The 1000 is being swam today.

So is that an official time? Similar to a first leg of a relay? I feel like it should not be since it is a turn and not a finish.
