I have an APS sophomore who really wants to start thinking about schools but she does not know yet what to ask, look for etc. When I ask questions it stresses her out - having something other than tiktok and kid rumors would help her agency!

That will give you a realistic view. You can also look now but it won’t be as current. JMI has not released any decisions for this year’s seniors yet.
It’s also a good idea to start looking at alternatives for a backup plan. Penn State? Delaware? ECU? UK? Etc. make a balanced list!
I don't have a Naviance account. My kid is a senior waiting for a decision this month. So we'll know soon anyway. But I would be curious to see the data.
Our kid did also apply to two other schools, just doesn't have any interest in them whatsoever and is taking JMU for granted.

Most colleges have become more competitive in recent years (that may start to shift with the declining birth rate and approaching enrollment cliff).
