European bathrooms all seem to be designed to get water everywhere. My DH and I bring this up at dinner parties in the hopes that someone will explain we are using the shower incorrectly and there is some European showering custom we don't know about that will resolve this issue. It is baffling. Though at this point it's just a joke in our family -- whoever showers first in our hotel room will come out and announce, "Just in case you were wondering, there is now water f***ing everywhere." Because there always is!

In the US I've found that a lot fewer hotels do the half glass thing and even the ones that do tend to design the floor with something that will contain the water.

I do assume that having a bathroom where everything is tiled and a hard surface makes it easier to do the industrial-level cleaning I think hotel bathrooms often need. Which I appreciate. But I will never understand why European hotel bathrooms are designed for the whole bathroom to get wet whenever anyone showers. When we stay in private homes, it's not like that. It's just a hotel thing. A true mystery.

Maybe? I think maybe foreigners like the shower pressure and the glass door was built for a population who likes to wash under a "leetle trickle" of water? Anyone care to speculate? They also never have decent bath mats.

We have one in the master as well. I’m now a convert if they are built well. We never have water outside of the shower.

I hate shower curtains. So gross.

I hate this trend as well. I also hate barn doors that provide little noise barrier between the bathroom and the bedroom. I don't care if I am by myself but if I am staying with anyone, even my spouse, I want a little more privacy when I'm in the bathroom.

If a glass door, make the door the full size of the opening, not halfway. Or, make it a deep shower with the shower head way in the back so that the entire bathroom floor isn't soaking wet.

We're currently in Europe (2 countries over 2 weeks), at 2 different Hiltons, and I hate the half-glass door

In Europe, there is usually a drain in the floor of the bathroom. I wish we did that here.

Curtains are gross, but yes, I wish there was a full door. Besides water getting everywhere, I get cold easily. Not as much of a problem in a tiny bathroom, but if it’s airy and there’s only a half glass wall…brrrr.

+1
I love traveling in Europe except for the showers. It’s maddening how hard it is to shower without getting the bathroom wet

We have a half door in the house we recently moved into. I was skeptical at first, but it seems to work for us. I don’t notice much if any water on the bathroom floor. Don’t know why.

Shower curtains smell and harbor mold.

Agree with PP; hotel shower curtains (or any shower curtains, really) are disgusting.

Because shower curtains are gross and hard to clean…. Especially when the curtain clings to your leg (ewww just thinking about that). Glad to see glass instead of those things…

Can anyone explain why hotel room showers only have the half pane of glass rather than a shower curtain?
Even when being careful there’s so much water on the floor. It’s driving me nuts.
