St. James revamped their whole team this year. but they do offer a Sprint program (basically a summer team prep of 50s) that will keep him in the water.

Make sure you join a summer team and get him into summer swim. That will foster the love of swimming. Then start looking for year round clubs.

+1 great advice!

You could also look at arlington county parks and rec offerings. You can also check the teams in the area websites and see if any practice times that fit your schedule are available (york, machine, fish, ncap)- but I wouldn't try to join a team mid year for a 9 year old kid who just graduated from goldfish and isn't interested in competition.

+1, I would not waste money on joining a team mid-year when your child isn’t interested in competing. In MD, there is a program called FINS that would be perfect but I do not know what the VA equivalent would be.

Happy New Year!

Does anyone know of swim team (or just swim) options that a 9 year old could start in January-February? We’ve been going to Goldfish and now graduated from their swim team. Looking for something with more solid instruction in technique once/ max twice a week, but kiddo is not really interested in the competitive part. Anything with availability mid-year?

Thanks!
