That still gets you there before 10pm, to be honest outside of Adirondacks NY, there’s not much I’d stop at and call “exciting” or fun and we go to VT often.
Since you don’t mind stopping, maybe detour thru the Berkshires.
The Adirondacks are not on the way to any ski area in VT.
