I think it's a combo of possibly having gotten better and also the long-term warranty they have; people are more likely to take a perceived risk. Plus, their looks have gotten better, IMO. If you watch mechanic videos, though, there are still plenty who say not to buy Kia or Hyundai -- they may be basing that off of older models, though. It seems that people of a certain generation view them as being poor quality, but maybe younger buyers aren't viewing them the same way.
